I-76

on Friday, July, 08, 2005 1:29 AM
"Interstate 76" was a really fun PC game that came out around 1997 and was one of my personal fav. However, it didn't the attention that it deserved but really was an awesome game. I still think it is.

"I-76" did have a spin-off called "Interstate 82". It was a good game but it didn't have the same feel as the first game. Those of you who played the "Duse EX" games might relate.

The reason why I bring this up is because I've been playing the PC version of "GTA: SanAndreas" and it got me thinking. "I-76" was the GTA (if you will) of that time but with a twist.

"I-76" is a game where you play the role of Groove. He was a racecar driver who discovered that his sister was a vigilante and was killed by a mobster out to control the gas comity by destroying gas companies in the Southwest and you were there to stop him and avenge your sister.

The game was a car simulator but you had gun turrets on your car and you drove around shooting the bad guys while completing your mission objectives. Kinda like a PC space sim but with a car instead of a star fighter. You weren't able to get out of the car, though. Activision even allowed a recurring joke in the game which was "Never get out of your car." .. lol..

You can find this game and "I-82" in the budget section at some gamming stores at a really good price. It's worth it. Great game.

Dave-Tron and I talked about this game a few years ago. Thought it would be cool to set up a server and play it online.

What I thought would be cool is if Activision made another I-76 game but using a tweaked GTA engine and condition the game to feel like the old I-76.

I dream way too much... lol

For those of you who played this game, what are your thoughts???

I've got both I-76 Arsenal (which includes I-76 Gold and the Nitro Pack) and I-82.

I liked I-76 so much I ordered the soundtrack CD from Activision. I still listen to it driving to and from work sometimes.

I have a graphics problem with I-76 in DirectX mode on my GeForce 3 that I didn't have on my old TNT2, but I'll play in software mode if I have to.

I'll play online if you set up a server. Maybe DaveTRON will dust off his copy and join the action!abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I think I have a copy of this. I will have to look. If I was getting more than 1 day off this weekend I'd say let's play on Saturday. Unfortunately...

I'll check into it and see if I can join in. Boy am I gonna suck at it. Haven't played in ages.

That would be fun, guys. The only bad thing is that I'm still stuck with dial-up. But when I played it online years ago I didn't really have any lagging problems. Perhaps some day we should give it a try. It will get fun.

And yes... The sound-track rocks. I too still listen to it. It's a really good example that Funk isn't Disco, but a really good styal of jazzed Rock. I love the sound track. I-82's sound track was good too, but it didn't compare to I-76.

I haven't played it in a long time. I'll have to install it and see if it will run on this computer.

I have to express my fav. moments of I-76. Ever since I started this post, I really can't get it off my mind.

Groove was driving in New Mexico and a UFO flew over head and crashed. Tarus heard the explosion and radio in on the CB to Groove and says, "What was that???". Groove replies, "A flying sauser."... Tarus says, "Oh." like it wasn't no big deal. Next you see Groove driving off and the Hiway sign reads "Roswell". Very funny moment.

The down side of the Online play was some of the I-76 gangs. They used cheat appz when they played online. I started a gange called "Wolf Pack" that didn't get many members but I was trying to find a way to counter these guys. It was a fair effort but lost intrest quick.

The single player meelee missions were cool. I loved where you had to protect the school bus. It was a little cheezy in the end but funny.

Groove's dream about raceing Jade's foes was a cool level. I had problems completing that mission but it was a really cool level.

I-76 had all the elements that made a good game. The music of course, the feel and gameplay, the 70's, the story, the voice acting. I'm so super surprised that no one else capitalize on this concept.

(as you can tell, I've been up all night)

Just still excited about this game...

OK, I have it installed and it works. Not perfectly, but I can play it.

It installed easily on WinXP SP2. I've currently got a GeForce 3 with the latest drivers from Nvidia, and I can run I-76 accelerated or in software mode.

The biggest problem is that the most text (roadside signs, the speedo and tach) in accelerated mode is unreadable. The text on the other readouts (ammo count, etc.) is readable and only a little smudged.

If I run in software mode the text is a lot more readable, and I can run at 1024x768 instead of the max of 640x480 in accelerated mode.

DaveTRON or Qix77, if either of you guys has a way to fix the text, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm sorry MM. I've been in the loop for a while.

I have issues running I-76 with my G-force 5900 (it just wont run at all) so I use softwaremode to deal with it. However, if you have already corected this issue, let me know.

I'm sad that I have never got my hands on the Gold Edition of "I-76" (other than the upgrade). I really would love to play the Jade missions.

Something stupid, but funny:

I told my neise today (while driving through some heavy traffic in my town) that I really wished that I had at least 2 gun turrents installed on my Mustange.

She said, "What is a 'gun turrent'."...

The sad thing is that, she is 20.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Gun turrets would be great, but I think right now Blox Droppers would give me more satisfaction by teaching dumbasses not to tailgate.

If it matters to anyone here, I am selling an original I-76 promo folder and the flyer for the un-produced I-77 game.

Check out my Ebay auctions from the front page if you are interested.

Yeah... I remember you sent me a pic of the I-77 poster. I would love to get it but I'm pressed for money at the moment.

Here is a little somthing I have to express, even though I don't think it's every going to happen (cause the information came from a friend from a friend)

Word has it that someone is trying to mod the PC version of GTA-SanAnderas into an I-76 total conversion.

It's just a rummor... so take it for what it's worth... which is most likely bull.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Yeah, that'd be great. Thanks DaveTRON. Would you scan the back of the I-77 flyer as well?

The person who outbid me did it only by 50¢, and with only one minute to go before the auction ended. I can't fault his tactics, but if I had been watching (as I normally do) there is no frikin' way he would've won.

This person sure is serious about I-76 though. I observed that they also won an auction for a MOC Racing Champions Video Racers AMC AMX painted to look like Jade's car from I-76 (something which I never even knew existed), and paid $80.00 for a used copy of the I-76 soundtrack.

It really would have been great to play I-77... I'm surprised that someone at activision hasn't re-explored 76s roots and decided to make another game.... I didn't really care for the look and feel of I-82 but I still enjoyed it.
