Or was TRON just that far ahead of it's time... that it could almost predict such an existence?
It's a damn shame it failed. I was really looking forward to following this one in the space and tech articles sure to follow. How many years will this set back space travel science? I hope there are active plans for a follow up project on this.

Check that link in one of the posts above. It's got the full story. Russian ICBM engine failed apparently.

I'm sure there are. The link I posted says that this was actually the third attempt at a device like this. The other two being in 1999 and 2001. However I'm confused... did it go boom or not go boom? Part of the article says the booster failed and the vehicle was lost and that they are looking for debris however later in the article there is talk of a signal being picked up and talk of trying to locate the vehicle and they think it's in orbit. However those seem to be older comments made before the Russians said they had their Navy looking for debris. Looks like it did go boom after all but the way that article is put together had me thinking there was still a chance it might be found it orbit after all. On second reading I don't think that is the case.

My understanding is that it blew into little pieces, so I figure a BOOM was involved.

That's sad that happened. Would of been some great data finding for them once it was deployed and tested. Just think, in the future when we do colonize other worlds, could solar sailing become a space past time like wind sailing? Just a random thought that poped into my mind at the moment.
