Rock and Rule 2-disc DVD set ROCKS!!! on Wednesday, June, 08, 2005 1:32 AM
If you are a child of the 1980s, there's a good chance you'll remember this little gem of animation from Nelvana!
It featured music by Debbie Harry, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Cheap Trick and Earth, Wind & Fire and tells the tale of an Earth in the future, when dogs, cats and rats morphed into human forms and dealt with a new kind of world.
In this world, Angel and Omar are struggling musicians, waiting for their chance to make it big. Angel's voice is noticed by Mok, the super rock god of their day who is looking for the perfect voice, one with the power to unlock a powerful demon into his control and Angel's voice is the one.
This was finally released on a damn fine DVD and 2-disc set. I found the 2-disc set today (as it just came out today) and if you love the film or even like it, you need to get it! The transfer is as good as the film will ever look and the 5.1 surround soundtrack is surprisingly strong!
Not only this, but you get director's commentary, trailers, the script in DVD-ROM format, a behind-the-scenes documentary made for the old Nickelodeon show Lights, Camera, Action - hosted by Leonard Nimoy. But the biggest bonus is that on the 2-disc set you get the original workprint (with different voice actor for Omar and newly found scenes thought long gone). It's not as clean a transfer, but it's closer to the original vision of the film and definitely worth having!
The packaging is very attractive and it holds a booklet with info and thoughts on the making of the film.
All in all, if you are a fan of 1980s animation and this film - you MUST get this set!
