Just got a Mini Robosapien recently. Image didn't turn out very good cause of lighting, but here he is below holding a Lightsaber spoon.
He has light up eyes, walk motion, and moveable arms with push button grip hands. This Mini Robosapien is a great little addition to the regular R/C Robosapien I got at Christmas.
Was wondering if there are any other Robosapien owners or even fans here? https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue_bezel/ |

I had my eyes on the regular-sized Robosapien last fall. It looked really cool and seemed like it would be fun to play with (and annoy my wife with - he he he).
But I didn't buy it.
What I really want is one of those Asimov robots Sony has out... but I sure as hell can't afford those things. But they're really cool.
What's your take on Robosapien? Does it have enough mobility and features to keep you interested for more than a few minutes at a time? Is it well built and function without problems? Would you recommend a Robosapien to others?
The mini version looks pretty small compared to a spoon-saber. Does it do as much as the larger version? Actually, I'm not sure how much the full-sized Robosapien can do.
I'll be honest though. Just seeing this image makes me kind of want one again! I'm a sucker for cool robotic toys like this.

I would recommend Robosapien to others. It was designed by a NASA scientist. Sure it's a toy, but that is what makes it so great. RoboSapien is easy to use with 67 pre-programmed functions. It's also technologically sophisticated with programmable "reflexes", 84 program steps and 4 advanced modes of operation. People have also started to figure various ways of programing Robosapien to do things his original instructions never mentioned. Modes like "Wandering Ninja," "Push Box Mode," and "5 Minute Burp and Fart Fest Mode." The neat thing about Robosapien is he's simple both in how he works and executes his functions, but complicated enough to keep you interested. I haven't had any problems with my Robosapien.
You might want to start out with the Mini Robosapein Todd. He's small and only 9 - 10 bucks anb would make a great little display robot for a cubical at work. He's only 7 inches tall.
Mini Robosapien is really just an action figure of the fully functional and much larger Robosapien Todd. He does have a niffty little walk mode though, complete with light up eyes. His arms are poseable and his hands grip via a push button on his forearms. Still, you gotta love the Mini Robosapien.
There is going to be a Robosapien V2. WowWee is comparing it to the Honda robot.
It will be able to reconize and see it's owner. Might have a speech program built in. It will be able to walk, run, and lay down. With it's new hand design it will be able to pick up and grip things better than the original. Price might be $200. That's been one concept behind Robosapien which is making it a robot average people could afford.

10 bucks? Yeah - that's more than affordable! And it does seem cool. A walking action figure then, right? Hmmmm... I wonder if it would make a good stop-motion puppet. I'm always on the look out for strange and cool objects to make stop-motion animations with! Not that I ever finish any of them... But it's fun.

All that for about $200.00? DROOL! That's MUCH more affordable than the $6000 or $7000 price tag of the Asimov! Still a good investment for me ( $200 ) but for something THAT cool, I'd probably be able to part with my cash!
So when does Robo2 come out - do you know?

Not sure when it comes out. Let me see...
Just found this out. Robosapien V2 can recognize skin tones with his recognition program. He will also be able to command and control Roboraper and Robopet, two other robots of the same Robosapien line that will be released the same time as v2. http://www.onrobo.com/content/view/53/2/
"Today Wowwee Robotics division gave us a first peek at Robosapien 2. As promised by Mark Tilden, Robosapien’s creator, the new version has some great new features including much more agility, improved ability to talk and interact with others, and a fun new laser tracking feature. Like it’s the original Robosapien the Robosapien V2 is destined to be a hit toy for 2005." Rest of article here: http://www.onrobo.com/content/view/52/2/
Robosapien is bound to cause a Robotic revolution in the toy market. I mean look at what it's done already in sales and popularity.

I did some reading up on Robosapien v2 at work today. That thing should be REALLY cool... IF it does all they say it will do. I could find no video of it in action
I'm guessing it is not quite ready for prime time... though at the same time, I'm thinking they'll release it (in limited quantities) this Christmas season.
Well, if it does what they claim - I'm GETTING one!
And I'll probably end up snatching up a mini Robosapien next time I'm at the mall. For 10 bucks - why not?

Sweet Remote Control Dalek Laphtiya. I love their design. I've wanted my very own Dalek, specially a black and silver one. What color do you have?
Yes Todd... give in to the power of Robosapien! You can not resist his uber coolness and black and white Nasa like paint scheme.
I don't think V2 will be in limited quanties. The original Robosapien wasn't at all. Wow Wee is eager to compete with their product cause of how successful the first was (rough 1.5 million units sold before the holidays.) I love this cause already we are seeing Robosapien starting to evolve. Wonder if we will eventually see a V3 or above in the future?

Yeah - I'm a sucker for cool stuff like this. If it's as cool as the articles make it out to be, my $200.00 is as good as theirs!

Well, if Robosapien V2 sells well and generates enough interest (and revenue), I'm sure we'll be seeing a V3 soon enough.

Dang, that Robosapien V2 is cool.
I was considering getting a Robosapien a while back, but decided not to because I played with it a bit in a Sharper Image store and it just didn't seem like that much fun. I guess I just didn't know enough about how to control him.
That V2 sounds and looks cool! I just may have to break down and get one.

Did any one here see Robosapien on the Science of Star Wars program on the Discovery Channel? It was cool seeing C3P0 and R2D2 interacting with Robosapien.

Cool videos Astro. Yeah Tron -X is neat. It was built by German industrial robotics company Festo and has over 200 servo-pneumatic controllers that provide muscle-like movement. The goal of this robot is to try and emulate as realistically as possible human movement, which means trying to employ joint movement like that of the human skeletal system. Operators can command Tron-X to dance, change facial expressions, and make complicated hand gestures.
