Paper (Lightcycle) chase

on Tuesday, January, 18, 2005 7:22 PM
hi all, new to this site but not new to Tron, I rendered some Lightcycle images on my Amiga many years ago and digitised in the videoclip of "Savior of the Earth" which ended up on this site - http://www.tron-sector.com/articles/article.aspx?ID=62 (someday I'll put it to DVD)

Anyway back to the subject, ever since I got my NECA Lightcycles I've wanted to do this:

(click pics for full-size)

the trail & grid I designed on my computer by using stills from my DVD and measuring my NECA cycle so when printed out it's at perfect scale. I'm planning on doing a chase scene as I have two blue cycles already with red and yellow ones on the way

Greetings, Glitch, and welcome to TRON-Sector!

I like your light cycle display there. Looking forward to seeing your "chase scene" when you've got that put together.

Any chance of getting a copy of your grid image?

I have some plastic display boxes I keep my toys in and I'd love to cover the base of these boxes with that grid.

Here are the images I used to make the above pics, the images are 12kb to 40kb in size:

http://www.haku.co.uk/pics/Tron_Lightcycle_floor.png - 300dpi single floor square
http://www.haku.co.uk/pics/Tron_Lightcycle_floor-print.png - 300dpi two floor squares with extra edges so when you print it out on a single sheet of paper you know where to cut so you get an even white border to the squares
http://www.haku.co.uk/pics/Tron_Lightcycle_rail-blue2.png - 300dpi blue Lightcycle trail - rough first draft, needs black dotted 'cut here' and 'fold here' lines on it

Very cool. Thank you for giving this to us.

Do you mind if I post it in the Galleries. I will make sure you have all the proper credits of course.

I am sure there are otehrs who will want to do the same.

Sure you can put them in the gallery, just credit it to haku.co.uk which is my website.

When I receive the red and yellow lightcycles (should be here very soon) I'll do red & yellow trails, getting the colour right for printing and adding in the 'fold here'/'cut here' lines, as well as trail extender pieces with the white line that appears ever 1.5 grid squares (I think).
Will probably have a go at doing corner sections too as a straight line chase won't look as good as a 'proper' game of lightcycles

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.
