How useful is knowing Java?

on Monday, November, 29, 2004 6:37 PM

I am looking to "better" myself by trying to learn some new things. I looked at a Java book and was wondering how important everyone thinks knowing Java programming is in this day and age. Java appeals to me because... a) it's free. and b) the IDE is free also.

Any opinions?

Java is a great language. So is c++. The cool thing is they are very similar. Once you learn the basic concepts of programming, learning the different flavors wont be like learning a whole new alphabet more like how to speak with a difference accent. I'm more partial to C++ then java, it has some nifty tools that java dosent. I would start with either one and get into some classes if you can. Some other new things to look into would might be, cisco certification. Cisco has a bunch of great little programs that teach you a lot about networking. The mcse's are another interesting series that microsoft uses that is worth looking into. Also take an old machine (or dual boot your current machine) and put linux on it. I think that every self respecting geek should know the basics of linux, great platform to play with.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pillabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I agree with you there Kmon. I'm partial to C++ over here. Java is great to learn off of. Since it can be used on almot any machine that has Java installed on it. Going from a home computer all the way up to mainframe. And I think Super computers too I am not too sure of that. So don't even quote me on that part.

Java is a great stepping stone in order to better yourself for other programming language. Java is simlilar to Like C++ in the way that it has been based off of C++. So its more or less universal amongst machines. Where as C++ you have different flavours around that will vary from the different operating systems out there. Like Solaris, Linux(And their different Distro out there.), AIX, Sco-unix, hp ux, Windows, etc, etc. So Java is a good base to start off with. Better than what I had started 20 years ago with GWbasic with numbering the lines and then write the actual code. Then run it in order to debug it at the same time.

VROOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.
