What does DaveTRON listen to while he's working on TRON stuff? Well sometimes he listens to The Tubes.

Remember, "White Punks On Dope", "Don't Touch Me There", "Talk To Ya Later", and "She's A Beauty"? These guys had so many great songs.

Well if you are in the UK or Belgium, you have an opportunity to see them again. The copied email below is from The Tubes Inner Circle and it lists their upcoming appearances in Europe.

I saw these guys live in Phoenix, Arizona in 1982 and they were really good. I saw them again recently in Agoura, California and they were awesome! I am going again in November because they were that good. If you want a fun, theatrical show, then The Tubes are not to be missed. I promise you that you will not be sorry if you go to see them.

The Tubes have just announced the December 2004 UK Tour Dates for their forthcoming concerts – "The Tubes Wild West Tour".

The one, the only, The Tubes!
Saturday night I went to see what is now my favorite band of all time, The Tubes. It was my second trip this year to see them at The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA. They describe it as their 'home club'and it shows. They are amazing.

I became a fan of The Tubes in the late 70's when I first heard What Do You Want From Life? on the radio. I owned most of their albums when I entered High School. Then came what I consider to be their greatest album of all, The Completion Backwards Principle. Talk To Ya Later is the best song ever in my opinion and Roger Steen's solos on that song are fabulous.

I met the band in '83 when they played Phoenix, AZ. I was going to school there and they played at a big hall, can't remember off the top of my head. They came out before the show and signed hundreds of autographs. I have a 12" promo cover for the Outside Inside album that has autographs from everyone except Michael Cotten on it. I even got their two cute backup singers to sign then.

I took that sheet with me Saturday night and after the show, true to form, the band came out and signed autographs for the fans. These guys love their fans. I showed them the '83 autographs, and asked each of them to recreate it on the back of my vinyl copy of Outside Inside. Of the six current members of the band, I was able to get Fee Waybill, Roger Steen, Praire Prince and Rick Anderson to sign. Their new Guitarist/Keyboardist, Gary Cambra was gone by the time I got to where he'd been signing stuff. I'd like to get him because he's brought some new life into this band. If you question that, go get a copy of Genius Of America their 1996 album and you will see. You won't be sorry.

Anyway, they came out in cowboy outfits at the start of the show. Last time it was clowns and circus acts. Fee kicked off the show with a brief monologue describing The Tubes Wild West Show and how they were going to play all of their big hits with a new cowboy feel. They then launched into a Banjo tinged version of She's A Beauty and the crowd was smiling. About 30 seconds in, Fee said, 'Nah, just kidding' and they launched into the best version of She's A Beauty I have heard them play. My uncle, who was with me earlier this year when I saw them, agreed that they were much tighter in their playing this time out, although both shows were excellent.

They progressed into Malaguena Salerosa and everyone was grooving. I can't recall the song order, but they played Don't Want To Wait Anymore, What Do You Want From Live, Mondo Bondage, White Punks on Dope and other hits.

They also tried out some new songs. One, The Auctioneer is growing on me. But the one called Pain ought to be a hit at radio, provided radio was cool enough to play these guys instead of Britney Spears.

They ended the show with an awesome rendition of Talk To Ya Later that allows both Roger and Gary to blaze away on extended solos. Prarie Prince had a great drum solo in the middle of the show that combined his playing with programmed sounds from the keyboards. That was cool.

Fee was amazing, changing costumes every couple of songs. He went from Cowboy to Circus Barker to Salesman to Quay Lude to Bondage Guy and ended as Fee. The man is great.

I added to my t-shirt collection and even splurged on a copy of Fee's last solo record. It's good, but I like The Tubes better.
