Great Moments in Literature

on Saturday, August, 28, 2004 2:07 PM
Hello all,

My best friends and I are fans of Tron. Lately I've taken to writing doggerel verse to amuse or annoy him, and somehow I found myself inspired to write him a sonnet about the Tron arcade game. I thought you folks might enjoy it...

The glowing shaft appears! In glee Tron swings his arms about.

(Not all spiders were destroyed -- yet a few remain behind.)

Yet the futility strikes Tron with all the fury of a shout --

He'll come back this way again. I'll bet more spiders will he find.

The system streteches endless through the networks of the world,

But on the Game Grid Tron remains, as if the wheel turns

Again to match him 'gainst the foe, his frisbee to unfurl

The bugs to swat, the cycles smash, the tanks to leave to burn.

Such waste! So many foes de-rezzed! Yet always more arrive

To harry Tron, to push him back, to force him to excel.

To keep on fighting is the only way he stays alive!

It's byte-eat-byte, strong smash the weak, here in this neon hell.

To source code must poor Tron be true, and this remains his lot:

To keep the kiddies putting quarters in the console slot.

...Or maybe not.
