Pixar not leaving Disney?

on Wednesday, July, 21, 2004 11:17 PM

Hey, check out this story I found . . .

http://us.imdb.com/news/sb/#2
This link may only last 24-48 hours, since IMDB keeps changing their news pages.

Here's the text from the news page:

Pixar To Stay Put at Disney, Says Report

After holding discussions with MGM, Sony, Warner Bros. and Fox, Steve Jobs' Pixar Animation Studios has concluded that it will remain partnered with Disney, the New York Post reported today (Wednesday), citing sources familiar with the matter. The newspaper commented that such a development would represent a significant victory for Disney CEO Michael Eisner, whose relationship with Jobs was described by the Post as "acrimonious." (Jobs has told interviewers in the past that he would renew negotiations with Disney only if Eisner was forced out.) Jobs had reportedly been hoping that another studio would agree to a deal in which it would receive simply a distribution fee to handle Pixar films and would not share in their profits.

This is great news (except to Jobs, LOL) . . . it means Pixar could still work on a film one day, after all.

I doubt Pixar would do Tron. As far as I know, they've never been interested in integrating live-action into their CG. Plus, Pixar usually does children's films, which Tron (despite its PG rating) is not.

That said, PIXAR RULES!! W00t! Pixar has been batting a thousand since the release of their very first film. They have yet to make a film that does not massively succeed at the box office. I have every confidence that The Incredibles will not fail in this regard.

It's too bad they're looking at partnering up with Disney again, though. Pixar deserves better. Disney doesn't. I'm sure Pixar knows what's good for them, though.

I don't see why Pixar wouldn't want to work on a new film.

First off, creating a live action movie mixed with CGI would be another breakthrough in filmmaking if they pulled it off well.

Second, John Lasseter (hope I spelled his name right) who is one the founders of Pixar, is a big fan of . He's featured on the 20th Anniversary DVD, if I'm not mistaken, and said something like "without there would be no Toy Story".
