POST 1000!!! 8:01 PM PST - 6/6/2004

This evening I had the pleasure of attending a presentation at the Director's Guild in Hollywood hosted by the Art Directors Film Society, called: Dean Mitzner and TRON.

Mr. Mitzner was the Art Director on TRON and worked on the real world sequences primarily and some of the physical sets for the electronic world.

The presentation opened with a Powerpoint presentation on some of the films Mr. Mitzner has worked on. Featured were 1941, 9 to 5, Looker and TRON. The TRON section featured some images I provided to them.

A speaker then came out and described his career and that lead into a screening of a rarely seen, clean 35mm print of TRON provided by Disney.

It was a beautiful print and a joy to watch the film again for the 5th time in the past two months. I saw it three times in 70mm at the El Capitan last month and I have watched it on DVD recently with TRONProgram.

After the film there was a second retrospective with Mr. Mitzner and a Q&A session followed. Most of the questions revolved around TRON.

Afterwards there was a small reception area with food and drink and Mr. Mitzner made the rounds and met everyone.

It was fun. I think I may have been one of, if not the most, knowledgeable people about TRON in the room, but it was a good time and nice to meet yet another person involved in the making of the film.
