I admire your desire to drive these jerks away by standing up to them.

But do not confuse a troll with a bully.

I hate bullies as much as anyone else, and I'll fight back and chance getting my butt kicked by a bully if one tries anything with me - that's better than letting the bully just get away with their crap. You can hit me, but you cannot OWN me! Besides, I hit back and VERY hard!

But internet trolls are a different animal.

In a nutshell, a troll is basically just a wussy (substitute the "w" with a "p") who hides behind false names in on-line communities. An on-line troll would NEVER try anything like this in person, because they FEAR people and KNOW people would never take their crap in person.

But on the internet, the feeling of anonymity gives them a sense of power and they get their jollies from abusing people, trash talking, spreading deception and lies, and just disrupting the peace.

You see - THAT is what they count on. They just want to sucker you in to getting angry and flustered - so they can get off on your reaction.

Can't this person be banned from the servers?

Bear with me here, I'm not very knowledgeable on server stuff but here goes:

Wouldn't banning by CD key mean that a client would need to send its CD key to whatever server it wanted to join, and in the case of banning someone, the server would then need to save that CD key somewhere? I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before some unscrupulous person sets up a server for the sole purpose of collecting CD keys, and then hacking the file where they are kept and handing them out to anyone with a warez copy of the game.

yeah he can be banned, but dayentech won't ban anyone...layer and raven have both tried to get someone banned before, and he said it's just words...no harm in that...

however, if he ever goes to suspect's, both layer and raven can ban him and neither will hesitate to do so, so come on over to suspect's server busstop, we'll be waiting...

oh and use your real name...we always know it's you anyway, no point in trying to hide.

Just use a one-way hash. Those are simple, easy, and designed exactly for situations like this. Run the CD-Key through the hash, and you get a unique string from which the original can't be determined. Easy as pie.

Yeah. I've noticed how Vets can sometimes be rude to newbies. At another Message Board, we'd call that Chibi-bashing. (Chibi was just the ranking system we used and Chibi represented newbies). I make a point of being nice to newbies because we're all one once!
