Does Synthavision exist anymore?

on Wednesday, April, 28, 2004 12:28 AM
Does anyone know anything about where I can find more information about Synthavision? Ideally the program itself (I wish) in any form; But information about it's processes, what was in it's object library, anything is more than welcome. I've been working on modelling a Recognizer in a 3-D program called Anim8or (anim8or.com), but there's no way to make the vector lines visible in a final render or any color but black.

So I've got 6 megs of bitmaps that are nothing but black and red >

If anyone's interested, I've got some renders but the textures aren't quite done and it's *very* difficult to get a good look at the cabin. Contact is ejkeever AT comcast DOT net.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Well Synthavision was basically a shape modeling program. MAGI (Mathmatics Application Group Inc.) was the creater/user of this software which basically used mathmatical primatives as the building blocks for models and boolean instruction sets to combine polys or cut out polys into the desired design. Basically every 3D App available can do this type of modeling, however only certain ones can do advanced functions like using Boolean math to combine polys and use them as shape cutting tools. Excellent modellers for this are programs like Carrera, Bryce, 3Dmax and Lightwave. Animator while a nice bit of freeware may lack this function and the flexibility of its more expensive brothers, but with a little time and savvy you could make some pretty impressive models.

The latest modellers take advantage of NURBS which allow for more organic and natural looking models. If you have a little time check out Nurbana a freeware NURBS modeller. You could concievabley create every Tron vehicle from the movie using just the Anim8tor program. Basically you are using a distant relative of Synthavision if you look at how they basically work. MAGI I believe went under in the mid-eighties and I know they sold the Synthavision code to VMAX (whoever they are) and I think once PIXAR developed Renderman, Synthavision was obsolete or transmografied into something else Blue Sky studios once used Synthavision too, but that was long ago as well. BTW Synthavision was created by MAGI in the late sixties with films like Tron and the Last Starfighter, being the most advanced animations created by this system within its lifespan.
