I'm trying to fill out this table. Can anyone help?
Designed By Modeled By
Sark's Carrier Syd Mead Triple-I
Sark's Pod Syd Mead? Triple-I?
MCP Syd Mead Triple-I
Light Cycle Syd Mead MAGI
Tank Syd Mead MAGI
Recognizer John Norton MAGI
Solar Sailer   Moebius        Triple-I
Grid Bug John Norton   Not CGI
I'm pretty sure I've seen this info for the Solar Sailer but I can't find it at the moment. Please feel free to add any CGI models to this list that I've over looked. If you'd like you can add models from TRON 2.0 as well.
Thanks,
Carl
Edit: Thanks Todd but I still had the problem with all the spaces disapearing. After clicking on quote from your post I saw I had to put @nbsp; (replace @ with &) in for each of the spaces. Took a while to get it all lined up but it looks ok now I think.

Edit: Anyone know how to type the above tabel so the spaces between the columns don't disapear? I'll fill it in with periods for now... |
I can't fill in the rest of the chart, but try this command for using a monospace font:
This should be monospaced

Ok, I had to edit a few times to get it to work. I think there's a generic tag, but I used the courier font like this:

then to end it

Replace the brackets with the symols to make it work.

Solar Sailer design was by Syd Mead and it was modeled by III.
Also, the MCP was designed by Syd and modeled by III.
I think the Gridbugs were done with "traditional" animation. Not sure who did it tho.

Solar Sailer was actually a combo of Syd and Moebius. I have a drawing of the final vehicle by Moebius in my archives and I do know Syd put some finishing touches on it.
As for the Grid Bugs, I have something here that tells me who, but I have to dig it up. I want to say it was John Norton but I need to check.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I could also list Syd with the Recognizer. I know he designed the interior, but that part wasn't modeled in CGI. And of cource he did the interior of the Tank too.
As for the drawing by Moebius... is that something that you can share? I'd love to see it.

Thanks... Is Esotek correct about that not being CGI? Looks like I'll be pulling out my TRON DVD tonight. In my mind its CGI but now I'm not so sure.
And thanks for the info about the MCP Esotek. I'll 'try' to update the table at the top of this thread as new info is added.
Carl
P.S. I added Sark's Pod to the list. I assume this was designed by Syd Mead and modeled by Triple-I as well but I'm not sure.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

The grid bugs were traditional animation. I will see about posting an image of the Solar Sailer. I think there is a version of it up here already from the DVD. I have a scan of the original drawing, but it's not necessarily mine to share. I have to ask someone first.

Steven Lisberger read this topic and sent me the following response to post here.
---------------------------
To the best of my recollection -- Everyone expected Syd's Solar Sailer to be a big winner. It was the only thing he did that didn't ring the bell. There is some art of his on it somewhere, maybe in the Art of TRON book. It looks like a melting space ship-galleon.
Since Moebius was storyboarding that seq. anyway we asked him to give it a shot and he did something based on some research I gave him that looked very tech and elegant.
It's as if the Syd art was more like a weird Moebius design and the winning Moebius art was more like what we expected from Syd.
Syd really had nothing to do with the final Solar Sailer -- it was cleaned up by Richard Taylor at III.
John Norton did do the Recognizer and the hand animated grid bugs. Hope this helps.
Steven

And there you have it. I hope it does help. I will try and post some of the images mentioned here soon so you can see them.

WOW!!! Thank you Steven and DaveTRON.
I'm sorry to say I have yet to get the Art of TRON book. Everytime I've seen it its been well over $100. There is one for $300 I see on amazon now. After I get back to work I'm going to pick one up... I've put it off for far too long. I'd really love to see Syd's Solar Sailer... can someone that has this book confirm that its there?
This makes me think of another story. Back in my undergrad days I took an art appreciation class. The textbook for that class had a drawing of Syd's Pre-Production Light Cycle, the one where pieces of the rider's suit formed parts of the cycle. It might have been this image:
But I'm not sure. I believe I still have that textbook but I've moved 3 times since I last saw it. The last time I looked for it I couldn't find it. The two artists that I came out of that class with the most appreciation for I think were Syd Mead and Frank Lloyd Wright.
Thank you both again,

Thanks for the offer. I still need to pick this book up and I admit I simply haven't taken the time to look for it lately. If I find one before you do I'll let you know but if you get one just for me PLEASE don't spend too much on it. Then I'd have to go and get you something...

He's not the only member of the TRON team that checks in here from time to time. I sure wish more of them were willing to post as I'm also a big Babyon 5 fan and I love reading all the stuff JMS posts about but I understand he's the rare exception to this rule. With story ideas and the like showing up here Steven probably can't post.
As for hiring us for Tron 2 (boy does that sound fun) even if Tron 2 were to happen I'm not sure that would be his call. Besides... I do this for fun... if I were doing this for work I wonder how much of the fun that would take out of it.
By the way, I just noticed I left the Light Cycle arena off the above list. I believe that was designed by Syd Mead and modeled by MAGI as well.

Hi Carl!
I have some shops here, which i check on a regular basis,
so if i see one pop-up, ill let you know.
That hiring-comment was not serious
I do all my 3d-work only for fun too...
Im a fan of some movies from the 80s and its fun
to recreate something from it, and kind of a tribute.
It started all with Videoscape3D on Amiga and im very
happy that i finally bought Lightwave!
Oh btw, the cgi in B5, which im a fan from too, was done im Lightwave.
But TRON has a special place in my heart
At this time when TRON came into the movies,
it was so amazing new, it left a deep impression in my mind.
Kudos to Steven anyone involved!
