Was the computer that Flynn used to hack ENCOM, an Apple ///? Did anyone ever have one? I heard it was the first comp w/ a hard drive. Also, why was the color screwed up in the "real world" scenes b4 the DVD release?

Uh? They were?
and yes, I'm aware that it was an Apple III. @_@ In fact, I took a screenshot to confirm this. Don't remember where I put it, though.

It was also the first Apple computer to have a built-in floppy drive, a Shugart 143k 5.25" disk drive. |
After replacing 14,000 bad IIIs, a newly revised Apple III, with 256k RAM and the option of adding a 5MB ProFile hard drive for $3495, was released late in the fall of 1981. |

I don't think it was.
When TRON came out, the Apple ][ series was still the latest from Apple. The Apple IIe and Apple //c came out a year or two later... which were also part of the "2" series.
If it was an Apple, I don't think it was an Apple /// (3) computer.
BTW - I still have my Apple //c computer - a real CLASSIC! MANY, many hours I spent on that fine piece of modern (for the time) technology! Fantavision (a 1985 animation program) was my favorite pastime and creative outlet.

Thereeltodd,
Well at least it was an apple computer at any rate. COme to think of it they could have even used the Next Nextstation Turbo that Steve Jobs had developed after he left Apple computers as well That one wasn't a bad machine. But I think it came out only after tron was release. Like 2-3 years later. Here is the link that I had posted it from my web site. http://www26.brinkster.com/compucore/nextststion.htm
I have two of these beasts at home and getting ready to install a slightly larger hard drive in them compared to the ones they have in there now. Like a 400 meg in each. Going to be placeing at lewast a 1.5 gig or a 2 gig SCSI 2 drives in them..

I agree with Kia,
I currently work for Apple and the company has a way of gettings its products seen in many movies/tv shows. It would certanly fit the track record if that (mabey) Apple III, was a test model that Mr. Jobs thought would b e ready for release at the time of the film, even though Im sure the unit was gutted and Steven Lisberger just had a keyboard and a crt in it with a video feed for the text.
Something to think about

Hmm.
An Apple /// computer.
I had no idea they ever even made a "3" series of computers... and I was SUCH the Apple-loving computer geek back in the 80's!
Odd though, that the 3 series was out prior to the majority of the 2 series models.
Great find, Kia!

So was I when I had gotten my Apple ][e computer as well. It was great for my schooling and all that in the beginning. But you know what. If memory serves me correctly the Apple III had a little bug in it. I can't say it was a bad bug. It tended to overheat in that. Since there was no ventilation fan to help cool that one off. But it does look nice and sleek for its time though.
