Gamepads for ultimate Tron destruction

on Friday, December, 26, 2003 10:14 PM
Greetings fellow programs,
I require information concerning gamepads, that will allow me to stop the corruption in the Tron-iverse. What models will fulfill my request? Please transfer the data to my port.

I recommend the Logitech Wingman Rumble Pad. It's cheap, it has lots of control functions, and it works well. Only, I never use the rumble feature . . .

It's got two sticks, a D-pad, lots of buttons including two large triggers, and even a throttle slider.

You can do everything except look/aim.

Well, that's not true. You could do it with the pad. However, it would be very awkward. It won't give you the fine control you'd need, like a mouse does.

So, I end up using a combo of the gamepad and mouse.

The only pads that gave you true control over look/aim were the Space Orb 360 (I think that's the name) and Microsoft's Dual Strike. However, both are no longer being made. A shame, because I'd snap up one of those instantly, if they were readily available.

But if you ask me, right now the Logitech Rumble Pad gives you the best bang for your buck. It even has a throttle control, which actually comes in handy despite what many think. (I use it to lean around corners.) No other pad has one, that I know of.

Another choice for a gamepad is the Saitek Wireless controller. Plugs into a USB 1 or 2 port and comes with extra recharcable batteries and charger (the reciever doubles as the charger) controls include 6 buttons (abc/xyz) r1 l1 a mode switch 2 analog sticks 1 digital pad and the ability to change wireless channels so 2 of these bad boys can be used. I only paid $30 for it from frys a LONG time ago...should be cheaper by now.

here is the link to a description on the saitek web site:

Hope this helps

Another searching high and low for the best controller to play GTA3 on the PC, I bought an adapter for a PS2 controller from www.lik-sang.com. I had to also buy a PS2 controller since I don't own the system, but it works great!
This is the one I bought: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=23&products_id=1697&

It works great for FPS as well.

I am a Keyboar/mouse gamer... I believe it's the best way to play FPS's but there are many that would disagree.

Just for the sake for conversation....

I trust Logitech. I have never ran across a media device from them that did not work. They seem to know what they are doing and they do provide some good devices. I own several of their joy-sticks for space simulation games (like FreeSpace) and just love em to death. I'm very pleased with my Wingman and Mouseman devices.

I haven't ventured much outside of the Logitech world so if you do find something that works, post it. I'm very intrested what the market has to offer.

IMO, mouse/keyboard control for GTA3 and GTA Vice City is far superior to what a gamepad would offer. This is the main reason I waited for both titles to come out for PC, instead of getting the PS2 versions.
