ATI CAT 3.8 causes Help Menu issues?

on Thursday, October, 09, 2003 4:43 PM
I installed the latest Cat 3.8 drivers on my (modded) R8500 and they work very well: noticeable improvements in AA performance and in benchmarks...

However, when I hit "8" in Tron2.0 - the help files appear directly over the help topics making it almost impossibel to read. This isn't really an issue because I know all the Help...

Anyone else seeing this behaviour? I'm wondering if I should submit it to ATI as a bug.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

I'm not sure exactly sure about the problem you're describing, but I installed Cat 3.8 and I'm not noticing any differences with the game.

Did you make sure to fully uninstall your old drivers? The Cat 3.8's are a pretty big change from earlier versions, so they're particularly sensitive to old files.

Did you REALLY uninstall them? Meaning did you run ATI's Catalyst uninstaller/destroyer program (http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/catalystutils.html)

Apparently, the drivers still leave some core files and registry settings behind that aren't removed with just a normal unistall from ye olde "Add/Remove programs." I've been seeing on some other forums that people are just doing normal unistalls and having problems, but then they went back removed everything, ran the Cat uninstaller, reinstalled and then everything was ok.

Still not all that sure what problem your describing is though. Everytime I go to the help screen, the lastest help file is always displayed, I just press escape to access the rest of the screen.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

I am a coder by trade... I have a desktop shortcut to REGEDIT - need I say more?

Anyway, the issue is this: the background of the Help files themselves are supposed to cover up the help menu files when you launch one. However, with this version of the CATs, my system does NOT display the background color of the help files themselves. This means all hgelp file text is overlayed on the help menu.

So far it's the only bug I've found in the new drivers. And it's a tiny one - hardly worth mentioning - except to see if others are getting it too. If it was common, I'd file a bug report with ATI - but it seems not to be, so.....

Ah, ok now I understand. Yeah I'm definitely not seeing that.

Perhaps it has to due with the fact that you modded your 8500.

Just to chime in, since I have more-or-less the same setup as M0b1u5 . . .

I have a Radeon 8500 and Cat 3.8's installed, and I'm not seeing the problem you describe. So far, everything is perfect since I upgraded to the latest Cats. In fact, my frame rate and image quality both received a nice boost.

By "modded", I assume you mean you used the so-called "pencil trick" to overclock it? My 8500 is only slightly overclocked, no mods done to it. It's a crappy OEM version with slow memory, so it can't handle a large overclock.

What version of the game do you have? I haven't applied any patches yet, but I'm about to take the plunge with the latest patch. Though it's unlikely, maybe the combo of the Cat 3.8's and game version 1.030 are the culprit. I'll let you know, after I patch the game.

I though by "mod" he meant where you overwrite the BIOS to turn a 8500 into a 9000 or something.

I still can't believe people are doing this and thinking it doesn't have any adverse effect on the stability or functionality of the card. I'm all for getting the most bang for your buck, but when you force write a BIOS written for an entirely different processor and memory setup it seems to me like you're just asking for trouble, but hey I could be wrong.
