I too have high hopes for HL2, but I just can't help but think people's are expectations are too high.
The hype and expectations building up around the game are so incredibly monumental that it could be a let down if it achveives anything but god-like perfection.
It's sort of like the new Star Wars movies. On their own, they're really not such bad scifi flicks, but when weighed against the insurmountable expectations of fans they just didn't measure up. I often like to think what people's perception would have been had the original trilogy never been released.

Half life had god like hype...remeber back in the day, and the cool thing was it pretty met the expectations! But, hl was revolutionary, I dont think hl2 is revolutionary. There are some cool elements, but it will not impact the gaming scene and direction of future games quite as much as hl did (it dosent need to redefine the genre). Hl2 will have CRAZY sales simply beacuse its hl2, but that dosent mean that people will stop buying other games. I believe that tron will continue to sell well these next few months, some holiday hype maybe with a price cut will help things even more. Yes i am a hl2 fandboy, and will preorder as soon as they get the release date worked out, ha 
....*looks up top to find topic again*, ah yes. I agree, good review, covers many of my personal prasies and gripes about the game. Cant wait to get that expansion with MORE MULTIPLAYER MODES....(hint hint).
