Anyone run into this when they try to install:
"An error occured while launching setup
the remote procedure call failed"
Can't instal the game. I have Norton internet security installed. I've shut down everything in my task tray and disable Norton. Anyone?

Have you tried launching setup.exe directly from the disk? It makes it into the actuall setup program... I see the first image of a virus guy and install says its at 0%. I'd bet there is a conflict with another program or something... I doubt the disc is bad. I'm going to mess around and see what I can dig up.

If you still run into problems, I suggest you try the BVI tech support number (listed in the manual) or send an email with a description of your problem and the contents of your dxdiag info to support@tron20.net.

Cliff I was able to 'get around' the problem by installing as soon as I could after I logged into my XP machine, and before everything that gets 'autoloaded' at startup has loaded (mainly Norton's Internet Security product).
I'm almost 100% positive that Norton Internet Security is causing some kind of bastage with InstallShield.
You might want to do some internal tests with that scenario.

Nero... did you miss the part of my post where it said I turned everything off that I could? I even brought up Task Manager and killed as many processes as I thought I could.
No offense but telling me that standard line is damn near insulting. Of *course* I tried 'disabling' the virus scanner and associated programs... didn't help. Shut down every process that I thought was virus related.. no good.
Anyway, I figured out a way around the problem. File it for reference or ignore it with a standard trouble shooting response..... its your choice.

Actually, in some instances just turning off the program from the Task Manager or MSConfig doesn't get rid of the program entirely. I have seen some rare instances where the program, for whatever reason or another, is still running in the background despite the front-end being turned off.
As much as a pheonimal PITA it is (and I caught earfulls for it, but it worked) sometimes you have to out and out uninstall the software and reinstall it. Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

That was my next step, but glad I didn't have to do it. I think I'm going to regret getting Norton Internet Security.

No prob Cliff I was just tired and having been a developer for the last 15 years I'm somewhat familiar with the 'basics' of troubleshooting.
I know its Norton and Installshield duking it out... and I'm more frustrated at Norton then anything...

My post was in response to you finally getting the install to work by installing before the startup programs are loaded.
It was a general response and was not meant as a slight to you in any way.
