As for the grafitti removal, I kind of relate it to sand blasting or using a high pressure washer. A lot of times, that process is slow and tedious. And you can only tackle small spots at a time if the stain/grafitti/grunge is a stubborn one and requires lots of pressure/work. So maybe that's the analogy they were going for.
